Economics

This fully accredited economics course focuses on traditional macro-and microeconomics concepts, enhances students’ knowledge by guiding them through reality-based learning exercises, the organization and operation of a student company or a computer-generated exercise in management and economics. JA Connections, one component of the program, involves three separate elements which help students develop knowledge, skills and personal characteristics and excel in school, careers and the community: Success Skills, Workplace Internship and Leadership JA.

GLOBE

(Global Learning of the Business Enterprise) GLOBE provides students with hands-on learning opportunities regarding international trade and encourages them to develop cultural understanding by operating their own global business. Students from two separate countries pair to form a joint venture, import-export company. Students not only obtain a greater understanding of the technical aspects of international business, but also work in a rich learning environment that enhances the appreciation of the culture and the ethical impacts of international trade.

JA TITAN

JA TITAN, an entrepreneurial and interactive business simulation game, assists young adults in developing the skills necessary to compete in the business world of the 21st century. In this engaging Internet-based program, students serve as the CEO of a fictional company, and compete against other players running his/her own “companies”. Students develop savvy business skills that challenge them to think strategically about a company's goals and react to the dynamic changes of a technology-driven, global marketplace. Lycos has partnered with Junior Achievement to make the web version of JA TITAN accessible via any computer connected to the Internet at: www.jatitan.lycos.com

Success Skills

Success Skills is a program designed to help students learn interpersonal skills and communications strategies necessary for success in the workplace. Students develop interpersonal skills, match careers of interest to them, develop resumes and practice their skills in mock job interviews. Volunteers from the professional community enrich the Success Skills program by offering their own experiences as examples.

Personal Finance

Currently in its pilot stage, JA’s Personal Finance program was created to address the nation’s need for effective financial literacy education. Personal Finance teaches youth the skills to effectively use their income to reach personal financial goals and make informed financial decisions. Lessons focus on five key issues: Income, Money Management, Spending and Credit, Savings and Investing, and Risk Management.

JA Company Program

JA Company Program is an in-school or after-school curriculum that analyzes and explores personal opportunities and responsibilities as students set up and run a “real-life” company. Students will create a marketing plan, a business plan, take out a charter and may sell a product or service.
